Following the celebrations, Yisrael Katz targeted Lamine Yamal and FC Barcelona directly in a post on the US-based social media platform X.
Katz, who chose to make his statement in Spanish specifically, accused Yamal of 'fanning the flames of hatred against Israel' in response to the images of the young footballer with the Palestinian flag.
They also threatened Barcelona.
In the continuation of his statements, Yisrael Katz also made an appeal to the FC Barcelona management. Katz, who characterized the images provided by Lamine Yamal with the Palestinian flag as 'provocative,' argued that the club should make an official statement on this matter. The Israeli Minister called for Barcelona to take a clear stance that 'such provocations have no place in the club.'
Despite the harsh statements coming from the Israeli side, neither Lamine Yamal nor the Barcelona Club have provided an official response so far. On social media platforms, however, numerous football fans continue to share messages of support for the young player due to his support for Palestine.
