Former French President Sarkozy’s First Night in Prison Was Eventful

An investigation was launched in 2018 against former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, on charges of corruption, illegal campaign financing, and collusion with a criminal organization, which led to a sentence of 5 years in prison. Sarkozy, who surrendered to La Sante Prison in Paris, was harassed by other inmates on his first night. In live footage broadcasted on TikTok, the other inmates were heard saying, 'We know everything, Sarko, you killed Kaddafi. We will avenge him.' Authorities have announced that additional security measures have been implemented for the former French President in light of recent events. It was noted that two armed police officers have been assigned to guard Sarkozy's cell, however, these officers have not been permitted to use mobile phones. French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez stated, 'I am responsible for the security of high-ranking officials. This decision has been made in addition to the measures taken by the prison administration to ensure Sarkozy's safety. Considering the status of the former president and the threats he faces, it has been decided to provide him with protection.'
