End of an Era: 139-Year-Old Tech Giant Collapses!
The German battery giant Varta, which manufactures a wide range of products from wireless earbuds to electric vehicles, and from home energy storage systems to microscopic devices, has officially filed for bankruptcy following a deepening financial crisis.
Germany's century-old giant has gone bankrupt.
Once hailed as a market leader in the technology sector, Varta has now declared bankruptcy. The primary factor pushing Varta to the brink of insolvency was the loss of its largest global customer, the tech giant Apple. Apple had been using Varta's rechargeable button batteries, known as 'CoinPower,' especially in its AirPods wireless earbuds, which sell in the millions worldwide. However, as part of a strategy to optimize costs and diversify its supply chain, Apple shifted its focus towards Chinese manufacturers, thereby terminating its partnership with the German behemoth.
Unable to compete with China, Varta was unable to regain its financial balance following a massive loss in revenue.
Porsche delivered the final blow.
According to information reported by Reuters, world-renowned sports car manufacturer Porsche AG and Austrian billionaire investor Michael Tojner, both current shareholders in Varta, have refused to provide the additional capital needed by the company. The tech giant, hit hard by both Apple and Porsche, has raised the white flag of bankruptcy. Industry insiders have leaked plans to sell off profitable segments of Varta, rather than shutting down the company entirely. A consortium of creditors, including Deutsche Bank, is reportedly mobilizing to take over the company's 'home battery and energy storage systems' division, which has seen high demand and promising prospects in recent years.
