So, how can we conduct this test at home?
Firstly, it's crucial to prepare both your environment and yourself to ensure the test yields accurate results. Find a spot by a window that isn't directly exposed to sunlight, yet is well-lit with natural daylight. Make sure your face is free from makeup, concealer, or tinted moisturizer. If your hair is dyed, tie it back completely with a white scarf or towel to prevent it from distorting your skin tone. Dress in white or grey neutral clothing that doesn't reflect color, and position yourself in front of a mirror.
Our first task is to determine whether your skin has a warm or cool undertone. To do this, look at the veins on the inside of your wrist; if your veins appear distinctly green, you have a warm undertone, whereas if they look blue or purple, you have a cool undertone. Another method is the jewelry test; hold gold and silver jewelry next to your face in turn. If your face looks more vibrant and healthy when you're wearing gold, you have a warm undertone, whereas if your skin brightens and appears smoother with silver, you have a cool undertone.
To confirm your undertone, hold different colored clothes or fabrics right under your chin. For instance, compare how you look with an orange or coral fabric and a fuchsia or cool pink fabric held up to your face in turn. Do the same with cream/tan colors and stark white/black. The color that conceals under-eye circles, blemishes, and redness while giving your skin a natural glow is the correct color group for you.
The final step is to determine your color palette based on your undertone. If you have a warm undertone and light colors suit you, you belong to the Spring group; colors like peach, coral, light pistachio green, and vibrant yellows will look great on you. If you have a warm undertone but dark, matte colors suit you, you belong to the Autumn group; you should opt for colors like tan, khaki, terracotta, and mustard. If you have a cool undertone and light, soft colors suit you, you belong to the Summer group; colors like powder pink, lavender, baby blue, and mint green are suitable for you. If you have a cool undertone and dark, vibrant colors suit you, you belong to the Winter group; black, cobalt blue, fuchsia, and emerald green are your main colors.
So, how do we figure out which color suits us?
Determining which colors belong to you is quite straightforward. When the right colors are applied to your face, your skin tone instantly evens out, under-eye circles lighten, and your eyes sparkle. In contrast, with the wrong colors, your face recedes into the background, your skin appears pale, pallid, or sickly, and blemishes become more noticeable. If your face rather than the color is the first thing you notice when you look in the mirror, you've found the right color.
