He recently shared on a podcast titled Origins with Crush Jumbo about a film offer that could have been the opportunity of a lifetime and made him even more famous.
According to a report by Hollywood Reporter, Schwimmer explained,
“I had just finished shooting my first leading role in the film The Pallbearer. The film was a flop, but our expectations were high. Later, Miramax gave me a chance to direct a film. We were set to make Since You’ve Been Gone with friends from the theater company. But at that time, my manager told me that I was offered a role in Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi film Men in Black. I turned it down so I wouldn’t let my friends down. I felt it could ruin our friendship.”
Schwimmer continued by stating that the role he was offered ultimately went to Will Smith.
Those who have seen the film know that the 1997 movie made Smith one of the brightest stars in the world, leading to several sequels.
In the interview, David Schwimmer expressed regret over this difficult decision made nearly 30 years ago, realizing that if he had chosen that film, his career could have taken a completely different trajectory.
