When delving into the history of hygiene products, it becomes apparent that in eras devoid of textile and mass production technologies, gauze bandages, layers of cotton, and even washable fabrics were predominantly utilized.
In this era, pads were sold with the seriousness of a medical supply, being quite thick, hard, and packaged in cardboard boxes. However, by the 1950s, protective tissues resembling mesh that surrounded the pads and layers of cellulose to increase absorption began to be introduced. Still, they were far from being comfortable and thin.
The 1980s marked a real turning point in the women's hygiene market because 'self-adhesive strips' became widespread during this period, consigning the use of belts and pins to history. Fast forward to the 2020s, leak-proof wings, ultra-thin porous structures, breathable organic cotton surfaces, and liquid-trapping gels have become the standard. This journey, from the bulky and crude cloth pieces of the past to today's ultra-modern designs that are barely noticeable, strikingly illustrates how both industrial design and the value given to women's health have changed.
