Birds of Prey Swarm and Attack Woman Cooking Outside in India
We tend to think nature’s most dangerous hunters are always the biggest or strongest. But birds of prey can reach places no other animal can, making them far more formidable. They can swoop down onto balconies, rooftops, and even windows high above the ground, leaving their targets with nowhere to run especially out in the open.
Footage filmed from the window of a high-rise apartment in India has gone viral on social media. It shows dozens of birds of prey swooping toward the window. Their astonishing boldness stems from a tradition that has been practiced in the country for years. Yet the sight left viewers unfamiliar with the custom with chills.

In India, people believe that tossing meat to birds brings good luck!
The birds shown in the images are black kites, a common sight in cities across India. In many parts of the country—particularly in major urban centres like Delhi—people have long tossed pieces of meat into the air to feed these birds of prey. Local tradition holds that feeding them brings good fortune and helps people weather life’s hardships.
This practice has also shaped how the birds behave around people. A study in Delhi found that meat scraps make up a significant portion of black kites’ diet, so the birds have little hesitation about approaching homes or flying through open windows. With wingspans of around five feet, it’s easy to see why a flock of these raptors swooping toward a window can take people by surprise.
