20 Popular Trends That Prove We Were Totally Unfair To Emo Culture
You all remember them: From the 2000s to 2010s, Emos were a vastly ridiculed community, although they were one of the most popular subcultures of the day. Members of the community probably felt marginalized and alienated, and we kept making fun of their looks, their music, and in short, their outlook on life. Today’s popular fashion trends, however, prove that they were totally on to something! Here are 20 trends that emos started but we’ve only just recently realized and adopted!
Fishnet stockings.

We used to think that fishnet stockings were trashy and cheap. Today, even the classiest of us don't hesitate to put them on!

Corsets

Everyone thought that corsets were too extravagant for a casual style. Now people wear them even on t-shirts!

Unicorn and mermaid hair.

Since the 80s, colorful hair was trendy among several subcultures, including hippies and emos. But it has never been this popular amongst the general population. Looks like we’ve finally understood how good it feels to go crazy with the hair!

Groupie t-shirts.

Emos used to wear mostly black t-shirts with their favorite group’s name on it. Now you don’t even have to have a favorite band to wear groupie t-shirts.

Taking selfies outside.

Teenagers wouldn’t remember this, but back then it was weird to take your own photo on the street. People used to look down on whoever did this, including emos. Now it's not normal not doing it every once in a while.

Mirror selfies.

Taking mirror selfies was just LAME. Now you see world famous models’ mirror selfies all over Instagram. Emos were way ahead of their time, once again.

Making weird faces in photos.

Emos used to do this all the time, and we just looked down on them for being pathetic losers. We’re all losers now, I suppose…

Wearing sneakers with dresses.

You would just say “gross” if you saw someone wearing pink sneakers with a classy dress ten years ago. Now all the cool kids do it.

Body belts.

Another amazing accessory emo kids discovered 10 years before us. Surprised?

Chokers

Now let’s confess, we at least once made fun of an emo for looking like a dog when wearing a choker. I bet you’re wearing one right now.

Clothes with studs and leather.

Punks, rockers, and metalheads loved this trend, but only recently have we realized how cool it is.

Pins and patches.

Remember those days? Everyone used to think these were childish…

Heavy make-up.

Emos used to wear dark lipsticks and black eyeshadow, and everyone thought they looked like clowns. Just check out Instagram for two minutes and decide who was right.

Tulle dresses.

When everyone was combining simple T-shirts with boring jeans, emos used to wear these skirts. Remember?

Piercings

People with piercings were considered to be too edgy back in the day. Not anymore, obviously...

Vans sneakers.

Converse and Vans have become extremely popular in the last decade.

Skinny jeans.

We couldn’t even imagine a masculine guy wearing these jeans. It’s amazing to see such meaningless gender stereotypes vanishing.

Pocket chains.

Pocket chains were also very popular, but not among “classy” youngsters. Only those who saw themselves as “different” used to wear them.

Slaughtering language and grammar rules on social media.

What do you think emoji is? You’re not even using letters to break language rules, people! Emos were doing it before it was mainstream…

Liking people who upload only their own photos on social media.

Emo queens were replaced with Instagram models…

☠️ Sorry, emo kids. We love you (now)! ☠️
