Yet, the character of Auggie seen in the movie was brought to life thanks to one of Hollywood's most successful special effects makeup endeavors. The transformation, which was nominated for an Oscar, was the work of world-renowned makeup artist Arjen Tuiten, who has also worked on major productions such as Pan's Labyrinth and Maleficent.
Given that Jacob was only 9 years old, child actor working time restrictions were enforced on set. Under normal circumstances, the prosthetic makeup process, which could take up to 34 hours, was reduced to approximately 90 minutes to avoid eating into the young actor's filming hours. Nevertheless, he had to go through quite a laborious preparation process every morning.
First, his hair was completely slicked back and a special helmet made of carbon fiber was placed on his head. Then, ultra-thin silicone prosthetics covering the face, neck, chin, and cheek areas were individually glued on. A special mechanical system was used to pull down the eyelids to create Auggie's characteristic facial appearance, followed by the fitting of a handmade, realistic wig. In the final stage, prosthetic teeth and special contact lenses were inserted, and the makeup team painted all the color transitions one by one to complete the realistic look.
Jacob Tremblay, who was only 11 years old when "Wonder" hit the theaters, is now a 19-year-old actor who continues to forge ahead in his career without missing a beat.
Having left his child star persona behind, Tremblay has been showcasing a completely different look in recent years through his appearances at galas, red carpet events, and social media posts.
With his sharpened facial features, modern haircut, and stylish attire, the actor has become a favorite in the recent 'glowup' videos on social media.
