Türkiye's Cheapest Car The Fiat Egea Sedan Will No Longer Be Produced
Tofaş CEO, Cengiz Elordu, answered the questions of journalist Emre Özpeynirci in a live broadcast he attended on CNBCe. In his statement, Elordu gave surprising information, announcing that the Fiat Egea Sedan, known as the best-selling car model and the most affordable car in Turkey, will no longer be produced. Tofaş CEO Cengiz Elordu stated in his announcement about the Fiat Egea Sedan that production will end at the latest in June 2026.
The Fiat Egea Sedan, which holds the titles of the cheapest and best-selling car in Turkey, will no longer be produced.
During a live broadcast on CNBCe, Tofaş CEO Cengiz Elordu answered journalist Emre Özpeynirci's questions and made a surprise announcement. Making notable statements about the automotive industry, Elordu announced that production of the Fiat Egea Sedan, currently the most affordable car in Turkey and the country's best-selling car model in 2024, will be discontinued.
Elordu, stating that they have sold over 700,000 Egea model vehicles since 2015, pointed out that customer habits have started to shift from sedan models to SUV vehicles, using the following expressions:
'We will make our decision regarding the production of Egea soon. If we decide to extend the production, our decision will be for a maximum of 6 months. We also want to fill the production quota that will be vacated by the Egea production with a new model. Of course, while making this decision, we need to understand customer preferences. Customers are gradually shifting from sedan models to SUVs. The success of Egea is indeed something that stems from the correct product selection. We did not predict that it would be this successful when we made the investment decision for Egea. We have sold approximately 700,000 vehicles in about 10 years since 2015. This is a very large number because the total production is at the level of 1 million 350 thousand. This shows that you can be successful when you produce the right product at the right price. Therefore, choosing the right model and being able to select what the customer wants is very important. It is possible to achieve a similar success with the right model in Turkey.'
