The most visited countries in the world have been revealed.

The 'Tourism Trends and Policies 2026' report, published by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), has laid bare the new balances in the global tourism sector. According to the OECD report, the number of people travelling worldwide reached a record level of 847 million in 2025, marking a 3.4% increase from the previous year. However, this growth was not felt equally in every region. Particularly, the rise in air travel costs, security concerns, and cancellation risks have directed tourists towards more familiar, safe, and budget-friendly countries.

Between 2019 and 2025, Japan led the pack with a 34% increase in tourist arrivals, followed by Norway with 28%, and Denmark with 22%.

Big surprise from Turkey.

Big surprise from Turkey.

Turkey has made a significant mark on the list. With a growth rate of 21%, Turkey secured the 4th place, becoming one of the nations that has most significantly increased its power compared to the pre-pandemic period.

Firuz Bağlıkaya, the President of the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB), evaluated Turkey's success with these words:

'Consequently, success in tourism is not only measured by growth figures, but also by how prepared and resilient the sector is against crises. It is necessary to consider the resilience and visitor management approach that the OECD emphasizes within this context. Turkey possesses a robust tourism ecosystem that has managed to navigate a variety of distinct global and regional crises. The most crucial element behind this success is the crisis management experience gained over the years by our travel agencies and industry stakeholders who are directly active in the field.'
