The Real Reason Behind Emmanuel Macron’s Frequent Use of Sunglasses
The fact that French President Emmanuel Macron wore blue reflective aviator sunglasses indoors at the Davos Summit sparked curiosity among the global public. The French media shed light on the aesthetic and health reasons behind this unconventional accessory choice.
Addressing world leaders at the World Economic Forum (Davos), French President Emmanuel Macron made a mark not only with his political messages but also with his unconventional image.
Throughout his speech, Macron captured attention with his blue reflective aviator sunglasses, which he never took off.
Although the reason for this striking accessory, worn indoors, was not explained during the summit, the mystery was unraveled through the investigations of the French press.
The choice of glasses by Macron is due to a health issue that emerged during a military event held in the south of France last week.
At the said event, the French leader, who appeared with a look resembling a red eye makeup and at one point donned a similar pair of glasses, downplayed his condition, telling the soldiers, 'It's completely harmless and of no significance. Please excuse the unsightly appearance of my eye.'
Even making light of his situation, Macron referred to his condition as 'l'oeil du tigre' (the eye of the tiger), alluding to the song by the band Survivor, synonymous with the famous 1982 boxing movie, Rocky III. He added, 'For those who understand this reference, it is a sign of determination.'
According to medical reports published in the French press, it was stated that Macron suffered from a subconjunctival hemorrhage, a condition where a blood vessel in the eye ruptures.
This condition, which can emerge from simple actions such as a severe sneeze, cough, or rubbing of the eye, is known as a harmless, painless, and temporary discomfort that doesn't affect vision. Generally, this ailment, which typically resolves itself within two weeks, doesn't lead to any permanent damage.
Medical doctor and media commentator Jimmy Mohamed, in a statement to the French broadcasting corporation RTL, pointed out that Macron's choice of glasses was purely driven by aesthetic considerations. Mohamed stated, 'Macron, being a well-known figure, chose this style for aesthetic reasons. Some people might have thought he had a serious illness; hence, he decided to wear sunglasses to prevent his picture from being taken in that state. The glasses are not protecting his eye, but rather, they are safeguarding his image.'
