'I'm often asked this question, but for me, the answer is quite simple. Just as Sea, Wind, and Earth can't belong to a single gender, I can't comprehend why Breath should. Is it the meaning that designates a name as female or male, or is it the meaning we assign to it? There's no need for a special effort to understand this; looking at the word's meaning is sufficient. To immediately label a name as a 'girl's/boy's name' just because we've heard it used for a woman or man before seems a bit like perceptual laziness to me. It's as if that person never existed...
