We feel compelled to issue this statement in light of the comments and posts circulating on various social media platforms targeting our client, Zeynep Atılgan, in recent days.
As is well known, digital platforms are not lawless arenas where anyone can 'set up their own court' to carry out extrajudicial executions, or turn a woman's private life into the subject of indiscriminate comments and collective targeting.
The lynch-mob mentality directed at our client, exploiting her female identity and private life, has exceeded the boundaries of freedom of speech and criticism, constituting crimes such as insult, slander, and violation of privacy under the Turkish Penal Code.
Evidence has been collected against each user and platform that has attacked the personal rights of our client Zeynep Atılgan, produced criminal statements, and supported this culture of lynching. Legal proceedings are being meticulously prepared against the individuals and accounts in question.
In this context, we would like to inform the public that all moral damages to be obtained will be donated to the Turkish Education Foundation (TEV) to contribute to the education of young people.
We believe that the disproportionate anger directed at women's decisions and private lives has dealt a heavy blow to societal empathy and the sense of justice. Believing in the possibility of a more sensible, fairer, and more humane language, we respectfully announce to the public that we will stand against all forms of digital violence and will fight to the end in the face of the injustice our client has suffered as a woman.
