Seven Turkish Channels Lost 28 Ratings Points in One Week: TRT 1 Stays on Top but Its Lead Shrinks
Because of the October 29 Republic Day holiday and a shortage of advertising, many Turkish series skipped their new episodes this week, and there were no European football matches on screen either. In the week of October 25–31, the combined weekly score of seven channels (ABC1 audience) fell from 185.02 to 156.60, a drop of 28.42 points. TRT 1 was still number one, but its score was cut in half and its lead over NOW shrank from 32.75 points to just 1.73.
TRT 1's weekly score was cut in half, and its lead over NOW fell to 1.73 points.
Last week TRT 1 aired three European matches and finished 32.75 points ahead of its rivals. With no football this week, the channel's weekly total dropped by 29.45 points to 29.36. That 50.08 percent loss did not knock it off the top, but it brought NOW right behind it.
The biggest losses came on last week's match nights. On Wednesday, when Lille vs. Galatasaray had scored 14.56, the foreign film Ambulance aired instead and got only 1.36. On Thursday, a rerun of Evlilik Güzeldir took the place of Beşiktaş vs. Crystal Palace and scored 1.15.
The picture is not as bad as it looks, though. Without the matches, TRT 1's total last week would have been 20.92; this week, with its series, it reached 29.36.
Taşacak Bu Deniz hit a season high of 11.12 and became the most-watched series of the week.
Once again, the show that kept TRT 1 on top was Taşacak Bu Deniz. On Friday, its 36th episode gained 1.43 points and climbed to 11.12. Kızılcık Şerbeti airing a rerun instead of a new episode gave it a big advantage.
On Saturday, Gönül Dağı's 229th episode rose by 0.80 points to 4.16 and topped the day. On Sunday, Teşkilat came third with 4.90, while Mehmed: Fetihler Sultanı scored 4.29 on Tuesday and Evlilik Güzeldir stayed at 2.38 on Monday.
Postponed episodes hit Show TV and Star TV, and Star TV finished last for the second week in a row.
According to the weekly notes, Muhtemel Aşk, Halef and Sevdiğim Sensin skipped new episodes on Thursday, Kızılcık Şerbeti on Friday, and Başkalarının Hayatı and Güller ve Günahlar on Saturday. As a result, the number of series aired that week fell from 21 to 16.
Show TV and ATV
Show TV lost 2.18 points and slipped to fifth place with 20.21. The Kızılcık Şerbeti rerun lost 3.03 points on Friday and stayed at 3.24. Sevdan Bir Ateş, meanwhile, rose by 1.30 points to 7.82 on Wednesday and became the third most-watched series of the week.
ATV gained 0.59 points and kept sixth place with 18.58. On Thursday, Güneşin Doğduğu Yer climbed 1.04 points to 5.35 and led the day, while Altı Üstü İstanbul lost 1.99 points on derby night and fell to 4.67.
Star TV
Star TV lost 3 points, dropped to 14.80 and finished last for the second week running. Tuzlu Kahve topped Tuesday with 5.57, but reruns of Sevdiğim Sensin and Başkalarının Hayatı pulled the channel down. Its gap to ATV widened from 0.19 points to 3.78.
NOW closed in on the top spot with Yeraltı and Ömür Usta, while TV8 rose 19 percent.
NOW gained 1.57 points and reached 27.63. On Wednesday, the 20th episode of Yeraltı rose by 0.86 points to 8.74 and became the second most-watched series of the week. Ömür Usta stayed the leader of Sunday with 6.62, and Anne Yarısı, which airs on Tuesday, climbed 0.70 points to 4.86. Sevdam Karadeniz, which got an early finale, stayed at 1.01 on Monday.
Kanal D gained 0.47 points and held on to third place with 23.92. On Monday, the 70th episode of Uzak Şehir gained 0.79 points, reached 7.12 and returned to the top despite the Fenerbahçe vs. Galatasaray derby. Haysiyet also rose 0.96 points to 4.28 on Tuesday.
The biggest climber of the week was TV8. The channel jumped 19.33 percent to 22.10, passed Show TV and moved up to fourth. The deciding factor was MasterChef, which aired a rerun last Friday but returned with a new episode this week and gained 1.81 points.
