A passenger plane belonging to China Eastern Airlines, which operates the LanzhouGuiyang route in China, experienced a fire outbreak in the cabin shortly after landing at Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport. The fire, which started in the overhead luggage compartment, was quickly extinguished by the flight crew, causing panic among the passengers.

The video footage showed the cabin crew removing passengers' suitcases from the luggage compartment to tackle the fire.

In their initial investigation into the cause of the fire, authorities identified that a portable battery (powerbank) in a passenger's hand luggage had spontaneously ignited.

Experts warn that devices powered by lithium-ion batteries can enter an uncontrolled heating phase known as 'thermal runaway' due to manufacturing defects, poor-quality materials, external impacts, or internal short circuits.
