Born in Istanbul, Uğur was the fifth child of his father, Hurşit Uğur, who worked as a chief engineer in Şehir Hatları. His early interest in music was sparked when he was introduced to the mandolin while studying at Reşat Nuri Güntekin Primary School. His passion for music further deepened during his time at Fenerbahçe High School, leading him to form an amateur group named 'Atomikler' where they performed popular songs of that time.

Uğur embarked on his professional musical journey in 1970 as part of the Şerif Yüzbaşıoğlu Orchestra, which saw numerous famous musicians among its members over time. In 1971, he met Mazhar Alanson and Fuat Güner in Kızıltoprak, with whom he formed the first group Kaygısızlar, beginning his career as a professional bass guitarist. After a brief period, the group disbanded, following which Uğur joined the rock group Kurtalan Ekspres formed by Barış Manço in 1972.

In the following years, he appeared in numerous movies, including 'Komser Şekspir', 'G.O.R.A.', 'A.R.O.G', 'Yahşi Batı', and 'Pek Yakında'.
