New Research Reveals Why Men Should Lower Their Standards on Dating Apps
A recent study has revealed that men need to have realistic expectations when using dating apps. The investigation, conducted on a Czech-based app, found that men tend to gravitate towards women who are more attractive than themselves, while women prefer men who are on a similar level of attractiveness.
Here are the details...
A recent international study published suggests that men need to reassess their expectations in the world of online dating.
In a study published in the PLOS One journal, the behaviors of approximately 3,000 heterosexual users of a dating app based in the Czech Republic were examined.
Researchers found that men generally sought to match with women who were more 'desirable' than themselves, whereas women tended to gravitate towards men who had a similar 'attractiveness level' to their own. This level of attractiveness was measured by the number of likes and matches the user received.
Due to the predominance of male users in the application, women generally held a superior position when it came to matching.
Despite this, women occasionally opt to choose partners who are less desirable than themselves. However, successful pairings predominantly occur between individuals of similar attractiveness.
One striking finding of the study is this: Men's high standards often lead to rejection, which in turn results in final pairings that align more closely with women's preferences. The notion that women hold a stronger position in dating apps is reinforced by the abundance of men and the expectation that men typically make the first move.
