Natural Method for Removing Stubborn Stains From White Socks Revealed
Grey stains on the soles of white socks can stubbornly remain on the fabric despite regular washing. One method to try before resorting to bleach is soaking the socks in lemon water. The citric acid in the lemon assists in loosening the dirt and sweat residues embedded in the fabric.
Lemon juice aids in loosening stains that have settled into fabric.
The yellowing and graying seen over time in white socks can be attributed not only to dirt, but also to sweat, body oils, and improper washing habits. Benjamin Thery, who shared the method, suggests that the acidic nature of lemon juice could assist in dissolving residues that ordinary washing can't remove.
The pre-treatment with lemon juice softens the stains before the socks enter the washing machine. Drying in the open air after washing can also contribute to a brighter appearance of white fabrics. However, when selecting the water temperature and washing program, it's crucial to pay attention to the care label on the socks.
Cleaning white socks with lemon juice method
Begin by separating your white socks from your colored laundry and place them in a large basin.
Fill the basin with enough warm water to cover the socks, and add the juice of a freshly squeezed lemon.
Allow the socks to soak in the prepared mixture for at least 23 hours. If the stains are particularly noticeable, you can extend this soaking period.
At the end of the soaking time, apply a small amount of gentle laundry detergent to the stained areas and lightly rub without damaging the fabric.
After thoroughly rinsing the socks, wash them with regular detergent in the program recommended on the care label.
Once the washing is complete, if possible, dry the socks in the open air. The process can be repeated for stains that did not come out in the first application.
For delicate fabrics, it is necessary to test the method on a small, inconspicuous area before application. Using boiling water or drying the socks at high temperatures can damage the fibers and cause the socks to lose their shape.
