The series was created by Ryu Yong Jae and directed by Kim Hong Sun. It is set in the same fictional universe as the original series.

It was revealed in June 2020 that BH Entertainment and Zium Content will be co-producing a remake of Money Heist. On December 1, it was announced that Netflix has confirmed a Korean version of the series, with Kim Hong-sun serving as director and Ryu Yong-Jae serving as a scriptwriter. They were in discussions with Netflix, which was in the production stage.
The series would have 12 episodes, with BH Entertainment handling production. On Friday, June 24, 2022, Netflix will debut the series 'Money Heist: Korea — Joint Economic Area.'
