Attention Car Buyers: These Cars Can Reach 400 Thousand Kilometers!

iSeeCars analyzed the data of about 400 million vehicles to reveal how long cars can stay on the roads. In the research, data related to the ages and mileage of the cars were examined to calculate which brand and models have a higher probability of reaching 250 thousand miles, or approximately 402 thousand kilometers.

In the study, a total of 32 high-volume car brands were compared. The average probability of reaching 250 thousand miles for all brands was calculated as 4.8 percent. However, the brand at the top of the list far exceeded this rate.

Toyota is at the Top

Toyota is at the Top

The brand-based leader of the research was Toyota. It is expected that 17.8% of Toyota brand cars will reach 250,000 miles (approximately 402,000 kilometers). This rate is almost 4 times the industry average of 4.8%.

Toyota's top spot is not only based on brand data. When looking at the vehicle-based research, the brand's superiority is noticeable. The longevity of SUV and pickup models plays a significant role in Toyota's top position. Models like Sequoia, 4Runner, Tacoma, and Tundra are also ranking high on vehicle-based lists.

Moreover, Toyota's success is not limited to large vehicles only. Sedan and hybrid models like Avalon and Prius also find their place on the long-lasting vehicles list of the research.

Japanese Brands Lead the Way!

Japanese Brands Lead the Way!

Right behind Toyota, there are again Japanese brands. Lexus, Honda, and Acura follow Toyota in the first four places of the list. Only these four brands can exceed the industry average of 4.8%, according to the data from iSeeCars.

2. Lexus

Lexus, the luxury brand of Toyota, ranks second with a rate of 12.8%. This rate is approximately 2.7 times the industry average of 4.8%. Models like IS, GX, and RX play a significant role in Lexus's success. Especially the Lexus IS with a rate of 27.5%, makes it one of the longest-lasting passenger cars in the study.

3. Honda

Honda ranks third with a rate of 10.8%. The brand achieves a result higher than 2.3 times the industry average. Notable models of Honda include Ridgeline, Pilot, Odyssey, Civic, and CRV. So, the brand stands out not only with a single car class but also in different segments like sedan, SUV, pickup, and minivan.

4. Acura

Acura, the luxury brand of Honda, ranks fourth with a rate of 7.2%. Thus, Toyota, Lexus, Honda, and Acura are in the first four places of the list. Moreover, the only brands that can exceed the industry average of 4.8% are these four names.

5. GMC

GMC ranks fifth with a rate of 4.6%. Although the brand average is slightly below the industry-wide 4.8%, it finds a place in the top of the list with the impact of large SUVs and pickups.

6. Tesla

Electric car manufacturer Tesla matches the same rate with GMC: 4.6%. The most notable model of Tesla is Model S. The vehicle also appears on the list of long-lasting passenger cars with a rate of 4.6%. Tesla also ranks third among luxury brands after Lexus and Acura.

7. Chevrolet

Although Chevrolet's brand rate is 4.5%, some of its models exceed this average significantly. For instance, the chance of Silverado 1500 reaching 250,000 miles is calculated as 12.9%, and for Suburban, it is 11.8%. Therefore, one should not assume that all models show the same performance by looking at the brand average.

8. Cadillac

With the same rate as Chevrolet, Cadillac ranks eighth with a rate of 4.5%. The brand's large SUV models are particularly noteworthy. The chance of Escalade ESV reaching 250,000 miles is calculated as 6.8%. Cadillac also ranks fourth among luxury brands.

9. Mazda

Another Japanese brand in the top 10 is Mazda. However, the rate of 3.6% is below the industry average of 4.8%.

10. Ram

Ram completes the top 10 with a rate of 3.5%. Although the brand's overall rate is below the average, the picture changes on the pickup side. Ram 3500, with a rate of 39.7%, is one of the notable models of the study as the pickup with the highest chance of reaching 250,000 miles.

Hybrid Cars Also Proved to Be Long-Lasting

Hybrid Cars Also Proved to Be Long-Lasting

One of the notable results of the research is hybrid cars. There are 5 hybrid models in the top 25. At the top of the list is the Toyota Highlander Hybrid with 31%. It is followed by the Lexus RX Hybrid, Toyota Prius, Toyota Camry Hybrid, and Toyota Avalon Hybrid.

Moreover, the weight of hybrids is increasing. The number of hybrids in the top 25 was 3 in the previous research, while it was 0 in 2023.

SUVs Are Far Ahead

Another noteworthy data is the presence of 11 SUVs, 7 sedans, 6 pickups, and 1 minivan in the top 25.
