Mata, who has a penchant for snake and crocodile skin, recounts that he was initially taken with the wallet when he first saw it, but promptly tossed it back into the box. 'Upon opening it, I noticed it was handmade and in excellent condition. It appeared barely used, so I decided to take it home,' says Mata.

He had briefly inspected the wallet in the store, yet nothing caught his attention. Even after bringing it home, it remained untouched for a few days.

Mata wanted to take the wallet downstairs to the kitchen to photograph it, contemplating whether it was worth selling online. This time, as he was inspecting each compartment, he felt something paper-like in one of the slots.

'I pulled out a $100 bill from 1985,' Mata said, adding: 'That's the year I was born.'

He wanted to keep the banknote as a memento, but he was forced to spend it.

After raising five children, Mata, who is now caring for her 18-month-old twins, says she really wanted to frame and keep the banknote. However, she spent the money, saying 'I have twins and I'm not working at the moment, I can't afford to save it.'

Mata also added that she will definitely check the bags she receives from now on. She explains that she occasionally found some change before, but never any money from a wallet, bag, or pocket.

According to the expert, finding money in second-hand items is more common than one might think.

Reyne Hirsch, who has been an appraiser for many years, states, 'People, particularly the older generation, have long been stashing their money in jacket pockets, books, shoes, and behind paintings.'

According to Hirsch, when someone passes away or moves to a smaller home, books, clothes, and old bags are often donated without being checked. If a significant amount of money is involved, she recommends getting in touch with the store to find out where the item came from.
