Nature, in its bounty to mankind, sometimes leaves behind small, mysterious, and equally dangerous traps alongside every healing food it provides. Honey, a staple of our breakfasts and consumed for thousands of years for its medicinal properties, takes on a completely different identity in certain parts of the world. This identity transforms it from a sweet food we're accustomed to, into a mystical force that pushes the boundaries of the mind, upends perceptions, and transports one to an entirely different dimension. This product, collected by beekeepers who risk their lives on the steep cliffs of Nepal, has become one of the most intriguing natural phenomena in the modern world.

Traveler and content creator Ruhi Çenet, shared a video on his social media account of his extraordinary experience in the untouched forests of Nepal, where he met with local beekeepers. He sampled the honey produced on the inaccessible slopes of the region, known locally as 'deli bal' or globally as 'mad honey'. Ruhi Çenet's unusual journey, which started with just one spoonful and lasted for hours, left viewers in awe.

So, how does the honey produced by a mere bee manage to create this effect?

So, how does the honey produced by a mere bee manage to create this effect?

The mystery behind this phenomenon lies in the 'Rhododendron' plant, also known as the mountain rose, which grows in the mountains of Nepal. The 'grayanotoxin' substance, derived from the nectar of this flower by bees, infuses the honey with hallucinogenic properties. Even a single spoonful can trigger severe effects such as a sudden increase in body temperature, a sensation of everything spinning, and a complete loss of time perception.

As was clearly observed in Ruhi Çenet's experience, seconds start to feel like hours, the mind becomes captive to vivid, uncontrollable hallucinations, and then the body attempts to expel this potent toxin through vomiting. Another surprising aspect is that the elderly locals living in the region have developed immunity to this honey and can comfortably consume it in much larger quantities.

This dangerous substance, which was even used as a weapon in ancient warfare, is referred to as 'mad honey poisoning' in medical literature and can fatally lower heart rate when consumed excessively. This honey, possessing a sharp and uncontrolled power, has the potential to exact a heavy toll on those who dare to push its boundaries.
