Five-Century-Old Historic Building Becomes a Hotel!

Vauban Castle, one of the most striking structures on BelleÎleenMer Island off the coast of Brittany, France, is entering a comprehensive restoration process. The historic building, with a history of about 500 years, is preparing to serve again as a luxury hotel, preserving its original architecture.

With the project, not only will the historic walls and structures be restored; it is also aimed to significantly contribute to the region's tourism while passing on the cultural heritage of the castle to future generations. The restoration project is being implemented in partnership with the hotel group Accor and France's public investment institution, Banque des Territoires.

The Massive Castle Will Have 90 Rooms

When the project is completed, Vauban Castle will host a luxury hotel with a total of 90 accommodation units consisting of 57 rooms, 24 suites, 6 duplexes, 2 apartments and 1 house, along with a museum, two restaurants, a bar and a wellness area of approximately 2,000 square meters.

A Defense Structure Bearing the Traces of Vauban

While the initial sections of the castle were built in the 16th century, the structure gained its characteristic defensive architecture in the 17th century when it was reinforced by Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, one of France's most important military engineers.

With its thick stone walls, trenches, observation points, and strategic location, the castle played a significant role in the protection of the Atlantic coasts and was used as a crucial part of France's military defense system for centuries.

Historical Texture Will Be Preserved

In the restoration project, the priority will be to preserve the historical identity of the castle. While the stonework, walls, and original architectural details will be renewed in accordance with their original state, the structure will be made suitable for modern accommodation standards.

Thus, one of the most important historical symbols of BelleÎleenMer Island will meet with visitors again, preserving its cultural heritage.
