The deserted village of Salto de Castro in Spain, which has been uninhabited for years, was purchased for approximately 310,000 euros, which equates to around 16.5 million Turkish lira at current exchange rates. Located near the Portuguese border, this abandoned village is not only home to 44 houses, but also features a church, a school, a bar, lodging facilities, and an old gendarmerie building.

The village, located near the Portuguese border, has once again made headlines with its new owner.

Purchased for approximately 310,000 euros, the village is not just home to a few old buildings, but rather it comprises almost an entire small settlement. The sale package included 44 houses, an old school building, a church, a bar, accommodation facilities, and an old gendarmerie building.

At first glance, Salto de Castro appears to be a silent village composed of deserted stone structures. However, its history is intertwined with the construction of a dam in the region and the associated worker settlement. Initially established as a residence for the workers, the settlement gradually emptied over time, transforming into an area that has been unused for years.

The majority of the structures in the village are in dire need of renovation. A serious restoration process is required to make the houses, communal spaces, and old social structures usable again. Therefore, even though the purchase price may seem low, the real cost is expected to emerge during the renovation works.

The new owner's plan is not so much to transform the village into a luxurious holiday area, but rather to convert it into a rural tourism spot appealing to visitors seeking nature and tranquility. The project envisages accommodation areas, activity spots, a restaurant, a swimming pool, and spaces suitable for long-term stays.

The village could potentially be revitalized through tourism.

One of the key attractions of Salto de Castro is its location. The village is situated near the Arribes del Duero region, known for its natural beauty. Consequently, the area holds potential for quiet vacations, nature walks, and rural tourism.

However, revitalizing an abandoned village involves more than just repairing buildings. Infrastructure, transportation, electricity, water, security, and permit processes also need to be completed. Therefore, it's expected that the implementation of this project will require an investment much higher than the purchase price.
