Don't Store Your Winter Boots: Meteorology Answers if the Weather Will Get Warmer
While Turkey is currently enjoying an extended summer, the latest weekly weather forecast report published by the General Directorate of Meteorology is set to shake up plans. According to the data covering the period from 13th to 19th May 2026, the temperatures, which are presently above seasonal norms, are gearing up for a sharp turnaround starting from the middle of the week.
The Meteorology Department has released the weekly weather report: Keep an eye out for Thursday!
The heatwave that held sway during the first half of the week is set to give way to a cooler, rainier system starting from Thursday. This air mass, which will make its entrance from the western regions, is poised to send temperatures plummeting rapidly. According to forecasts, temperatures won't merely return to seasonal norms but will dip below them in many provinces, effectively putting an end to the deceptive 'Indian summer' effect.
Temperatures are dipping below the seasonal norms.
Upon examining the weather map, it appears that torrential rains will dominate much of the country on Thursday and Friday. In particular, it is anticipated that the rains will be sporadically intense along the Central Anatolia and Black Sea regions, while it is also predicted that the wind will intensify in the Marmara and Aegean regions. As the rainy system shifts eastward towards the weekend, the western regions will experience partly cloudy weather, but the coolness will persist.
When we reach Monday and Tuesday, it is forecasted that the rainy weather will sporadically continue in the southern and inland areas, and temperatures are expected to gradually start recovering. It is crucial for those engaged in agriculture and those with chronic illnesses to take precautions against these sudden changes.
The following statements were made in an announcement from the General Directorate of Meteorology:
'Starting from Thursday, it is predicted that air temperatures, which are above seasonal normals in the northern, inland, and western regions and around seasonal normals in other places, will decrease in the inland and western regions, falling below the seasonal norms.'
