Biblical Sites in Turkey: Discover Ancient Locations and Their Stories
Turkey is unique in the framework of sacred literature. There are many places in Turkey that are associated with events described in the Bible. In ancient times, this region, known as Asia Minor, was the scene of important events in the history of Christianity.

Ephesus: The Church of Saint John
One of the most famous cities of biblical times, Ephesus is located near Selçuk in the present day. It is home to the Church of the Virgin Mary and the relics of the Temple of Artemis.
As one of the seven churches mentioned in the Book of Revelation, Ephesus was an important center for early Christians and a center for Paul's missionary work. The time Paul spent in Ephesus was a turning point in his life. He preached many masses, performed miracles, and composed some of his letters while in Ephesus.

The other prominent site mentioned in the Book of Revelation is Pergamon, modern-day Bergama. Called the 'Throne of Satan' because of its great altar dedicated to Zeus, Pergamon was a center of Roman paganism.
Although it wasn't easy for these ancient followers of Christ, they put up a strong fight and became one of the seven churches. Pergamon's main attraction is its acropolis, which sits on top of the hill next to the ruins of the city's famous temples and libraries. Antioch: The Cradle of Christianity
Also known as Antioch on the Orontes or Antioch of Cyrrhestica, Antioch is a city where the disciples first received the name Christians. This city was dominant in the early establishment of the Church and became a base for the missions and travels of the Apostle Paul as well as Barnabas.
The church of St. Peter is one of the attractions of Antioch. It is a cave church that sits on the side of a mountain. It is thought to be one of the earliest places of Christian worship and has a great sense of history as it embodies the roots of the religion.
Laodicea: The Lukewarm Church
Also known as one of the seven churches in the Book of Revelation, Laodicea is known for the letter it received about being 'lukewarm' in the faith. Nowadays, visitors can see the sprawling ruins of this once-prosperous city, including its theaters, stadiums, and churches.
Due to its proximity to Pamukkale, it is easy to combine a visit to both sites in a single trip. The striking travertine terraces of Pamukkale provide a natural contrast to the ancient grandeur of Laodicea.
Colossae: Paul’s Letter to the Colossians
To this day, Colossae is considered one of the least important sites in ancient history, yet it is of great biblical significance as one of the places where the letter to the Colossians was written.
Colossae, located near the modern city of Honaz, was a bustling city in Paul's day, known for its textile and spiritual production. Much of what is known of Colossae remains in the shadows as work continues to uncover its riches.
In addition to providing a sense of excitement, this sense of holiday gives one time to meditate on some of the weighty insights written in Paul's letter.
Turkey, more than any other country, has a great biblical history, so it is easy to imagine the events that took place and contributed to the formation of Christianity.
