Ankara to Istanbul in 80 Minutes: Details of the Super High-Speed Train Revealed

The project is set to radically shorten the travel time between Ankara and Istanbul. According to the project, the travel time between Ankara and Istanbul will drop to 80 minutes.

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu has announced the 'Super Fast Train' project. With the establishment of a new line between Ankara and Istanbul, the travel time from Istanbul to Ankara is expected to be reduced to 80 minutes.
The current journey time between Ankara and Istanbul, which takes several hours by high-speed train (YHT), is set to be slashed to just 80 minutes upon the completion of the Super Fast Train project. According to the project details, this time frame, including the check-in and airport transfer processes for air travel between the two cities, will make rail travel a much more advantageous and faster alternative.
What will be the route for the 'super-fast train' between Ankara and Istanbul?
Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that the project has been designed as a completely independent and brand-new railway line, rather than an improvement of the existing lines. He also provided significant information about the route. He pointed out that the new line will extend directly from Ankara to Akyazı district of Sakarya, and from there to Istanbul, underlining that this line is not a subway line. In this colossal project, which will be shaped according to geographical conditions, numerous tunnels and viaducts will be constructed to maximize passenger comfort and speed.

With the words 'Directly from Ankara to Akyazı, from Akyazı to Istanbul', the Minister provided information about the train's route, stating, 'This is not a subway, there will be tunnels and viaducts from time to time. But it will travel on normal ground. It's a brand-new railway line. Its completion will take about 10 years.'
