According to experts, a packed schedule can exhaust guests, eliminating unplanned and memorable moments that could be shared together.

Etiquette expert Rosalinda Oropeza Randall remarks, 'Like many of us, they too are taking a break from their busy schedules, piles of laundry, and appointments. For this very reason, free time is a delightful luxury.'

The moments that are most often remembered are usually those unplanned tranquil hours.

Etiquette and boundaries expert Jenny Dreizen states, 'Children mingle, adults bond, and delightful conversations take place. Museums are significant and entertaining, but what will most likely stick in your guests' minds is a tranquil morning spent together.'

On the other hand, Randall suggests not scheduling every single moment of free time. Instead, mentioning a nearby walking trail, pointing out a suitable lounge chair for a nap, or leaving a few books in the room can suffice. Telling your guests that they are expected to take time for themselves also reassures them that they don't have to be 'on' at all times.

Etiquette expert Jodi RR Smith suggests a schedule that includes a morning activity, followed by a communal lunch, and then some free time in the afternoon.

According to Smith, such an arrangement provides guests with the opportunity to retreat to their rooms and rest, while also affording the host a brief respite from the responsibilities of entertaining.

Discussing the morning routine in advance spares the guest from having to make guesses.

Guests might be unsure of what to do if they wake up before you. Randall suggests asking them about their morning routines and letting them know when you usually rise.

If your guest is an early coffee drinker, setting the coffee machine's timer and showing them where the breakfast items are can simplify things. According to Randall, if there's an alarm system in the house, leaving the code near the device can prevent any awkward situations for guests who need to leave before you.

Forgetting to prepare the bathroom is also one of the common mistakes often made.

Dreizen states, 'Knowing which towels, spare toilet paper, and which bathroom is 'theirs' seems very simple until the guest stands there hesitating whether to use your only towel or not.'

Etiquette expert Jennifer Porter's guest room checklist includes towels, a glass and pitcher of water, earplugs, an eye mask, a non-ticking alarm clock, a bedside lamp, and house slippers. Porter also suggests placing the WiFi network name and password in a small frame in a visible location.
