For many of us, even a temperature of 10 degrees is enough to bring life to a standstill. However, in some corners of the world, this temperature signifies what could be considered a 'mild' day. Only those who live in places where the thermometer hits minus 60 can truly comprehend how life goes on in such conditions.

Content creator Yusufcan Karakoç shared a day in his life from one of the coldest inhabited places on the planet, Yakutistan, and the historically record-breaking village of Oymyakon. Karakoç provided a detailed account of what it's like to live through a day when the perceived temperature reaches a chilling 62 degrees below zero. The resulting footage was enough to make us shiver, even just watching from the comfort of our screens. Particularly those who complain about the sudden onset of cold weather, found themselves reevaluating their living conditions.

So, why is Oymyakon considered the coldest inhabited place on Earth?

Oymyakon, located in Yakutia, is known as the coldest inhabited place on Earth where life persists. The village is home to approximately 500 people, with average temperatures in January hovering around minus 50 degrees Celsius. Official records indicate that the lowest temperature in the Northern Hemisphere was recorded here on February 6, 1933, at a bone-chilling minus 67.7 degrees Celsius.

In such frigid conditions, daily life operates under different rules. Locals either keep their cars in heated garages or leave the engine running 24 hours a day, as diesel fuel freezes around minus 50 degrees and restarting the engine becomes exceedingly difficult once it stops. The sight of cars covered with blankets in the video is a testament to this reality. Moreover, the region is plagued by issues such as ballpoint pens whose ink freezes, and cell phones and cameras that fail to operate in the cold.

There are instances where the harsh cold permeates even the most solemn moments of life: The ground freezes so hard that in order to dig a grave, a fire must be lit first to thaw the ground, a process that can sometimes take up to three days. Reaching the region requires a two-day car journey from the regional capital, Yakutsk, which itself is considered the coldest city in the world due to its winter temperatures. Therefore, the 'another planet' analogy used in Karakoç's video is not an exaggeration when describing daily life in this place.
