Toyota has emerged as the world's best-selling car brand. With its colossal sales volume in the first half of 2026, the company managed to outpace its closest competitors, securing the title of the world's highest-volume vehicle manufacturer for the seventh consecutive time.

Toyota has secured its place as the world's best-selling car brand. According to the official balance sheet for the period from January 1 to June 30, 2026, shared by Toyota Motor, the company made a total of 5.39 million vehicle sales worldwide. This performance represents a modest decline of 2.8% compared to the same period in 2025. However, despite this slight setback, Toyota remained at the pinnacle of the industry.
In the domestic market of Japan, Toyota's sales gained momentum, increasing by 4.4% to reach a level of 1.1 million units, compared to the first half of the previous year. A slight growth of 0.9% was recorded in the U.S. market. Nevertheless, the brand's main losses were experienced in Asia and the Middle East.

Toyota's main competitor in the global market turned out to be Volkswagen. They have disclosed their financial and operational results for the first half of the year. The German automotive group's global vehicle sales during the period of January-June 2026 experienced a significant decrease of 8.4% compared to the same period of the previous year, remaining at a level of 4.13 million units.
