The Long-Awaited GTA 6 Release Date Has Been Delayed Again
The highly anticipated game from Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), has been delayed once again. The company announced in a statement that the game is now set to hit the market on November 19, 2026.
The release of GTA 6 was initially postponed from Fall 2025 to May 2026. However, in a new announcement made on Thursday, the development team stated they require a few more months to achieve the quality that gamers have been eagerly awaiting and rightfully deserve.
Considered to be one of the most ambitious projects by Rockstar Games to date, GTA 6 has long been a hot topic in the gaming world.
For the past 12 years, game enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting the release of the game's new version.
As reported by the BBC, the previous installment of the series, GTA 5, which was released in 2013, managed to become the second best-selling game of all time. Despite the passage of 12 years, the online mode of the game is still actively played by millions of players.
In a statement, Rockstar Games expressed regret for having to extend the long-awaited release by a few more months and thanked the players for their patience. The company conveyed their 'extreme excitement' to introduce the new game, which will take place in the fictional US state of Leonida, inspired by Florida, and a modern version of Vice City, drawing inspiration from Miami.
A Rockstar Game employee also claimed that the main reason for the delay was "layoffs."
The employee's allegations are as follows:
'Last week, 34 of my colleagues – 31 from the UK, 3 from Canada – were dismissed from their jobs on the grounds of 'severe misconduct', without any justification being provided.
We were shown no evidence. Our right to have a union representative was obstructed. The discussions didn't even last five minutes, and employees were practically forced out of the studio.
All of those dismissed were union members, with many actively serving on union organizing committees. Just a week ago, we had crossed the legal threshold for collective bargaining rights with over 200 members. Dozens were fired just as collective negotiations were expected to commence.
Among us were individuals who had been working at Rockstar for 18 years, who had never received disciplinary penalties, and who had taken on critical roles in major projects. Some were on sick leave, some had just become fathers, and some were in the recovery process after surgery. They were all shown the door without pay. Some even risked losing their visas due to their job loss.
Our sole aim was to transform Rockstar into a more fair, happy, and safe workspace. However, the events that unfolded revealed that we value the welfare of employees far more than the company does. Currently, there's no morale left in the studio; no one trusts anyone. Everyone is living in fear, wondering 'am I next?'.
Our union stands strong. We are continuing our legal fight for the reinstatement of everyone who was unjustly dismissed. If Rockstar gets away with this incident without taking any responsibility, no employee in the gaming industry will feel safe.'
