Terrifying Moments: Footage Shows 7.1 Magnitude Earthquake Striking Japan
A severe earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 struck the province of Kumamoto, located in the Kyushu region in southern Japan. The tremor, recorded at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers, was strongly felt not only in Kumamoto but also in surrounding provinces such as Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Kagoshima, and Saga. Immediately following the earthquake, a tsunami warning was issued for the coastal areas, but it was lifted shortly by the Japan Meteorological Agency once the risk at sea level was eliminated.
High-speed train services in the region were temporarily halted as a precaution, while authorities announced that no abnormalities were detected at nearby nuclear power plants. Search and rescue operations, along with damage assessment, are being meticulously carried out in the region, and images from the moments of the quake have started to emerge.
In a supermarket, products on the shelves toppled over. A man found himself amidst the scattered goods.
Another striking observation was the calmness of the people.
Another user shared the Kumamoto Castle, which was taken into the restoration process after the 2016 earthquake.
Footage recorded in a shopping mall showed people dropping to the ground to protect themselves.
