Underwater photography is considerably more challenging than one might initially think.
Water refracts light, altering colors, and as depth increases, shades of blue and green become dominant. Overcoming these challenges requires special waterproof housings, color correction filters, and extremely fast shutter speeds. On top of this, wave photography also comes with physical dangers.
A wave rises, forms, and collapses within a tiny fraction of a second. Being in the right position at the right moment, capturing the perfect angle, and protecting your equipment are all elements of a delicate balance that must occur simultaneously. A miscalculation can spell the end for both the shot and the photographer. However, when everything goes smoothly, the results are mesmerizing images.
