Pelin Öztekin Returns to TV After Six Years as Host of NOW's New Show Gelinler Sofrada
Turkish channel NOW is adding a new daytime competition to its schedule, and the first promo for Gelinler Sofrada (roughly, “Brides at the Table”) has been released. The biggest talking point, though, was not the format but the host: actress Pelin Öztekin, who has been away from the screen for a long time, is coming back to television — this time as a presenter rather than an actress.
Each week, five contestants will compete for the grand prize on Gelinler Sofrada.
Contestants will have to prove themselves both in the kitchen and as hosts. Cooking well will not be enough on its own: setting the table, welcoming guests and holding their ground against rivals are all part of the competition.
The grand prize is an ambitious one: 10 gold bangles.
Cooking and hosting contests have long had a loyal daytime audience in Turkey, which is why NOW's entry into the genre with a new format has drawn interest. The premiere date has not been announced yet; the channel is expected to share the day and time in the coming days.
Pelin Öztekin is returning to the screen as a host after a six-year break.
Pelin Öztekin became a household name in Turkey with the sketch comedy show Çok Güzel Hareketler Bunlar. Her most recent television role was in the 2020 series Çatı Katı Aşk.
After Çatı Katı Aşk she did not take part in a new TV project for a long time, so the promo quickly put her comeback on the agenda. Viewers who know her for her acting will now see her in a very different role, welcoming the contestants and running the competition. How her comedy background and stage energy will translate to daytime TV will become clear with the first episode.
