A teenage singer on the verge of a successful career is conflicted between her love for her partner and her controlling family, as well as the demands of the business.

Lena Waithe wrote and co-produced the forthcoming American drama film BEAUTY, which Andrew Dosunmu is directing. The story follows a woman on the cusp of becoming a household name as a singer while living with her family in 1980s New Jersey.

A young singer on the brink of a promising career finds herself torn between a domineering family, industry pressures and her love for her girlfriend.

After receiving a lucrative recording deal, a talented young Black woman fights to preserve her voice and individuality, sparking a bitter conflict between her family, the label, and her best friend over who will lead her to stardom.
