What is The Afterparty About?

As the name suggests, The Afterparty is Apple TV+’s series that focuses on a murder mystery that happened at the after party of a high school reunion.

A pop artist Xavier (Dave Franco), winds up dead at a high school reunion after-party. Rumor has it that it’s a murder. Detective Danner (Tiffany Haddish) launches an investigation to uncover the mysterious murderer. Each episode of this limited series airs a different perspective of each person who attended the party.

The Afterparty Packs Murder Mystery

The Afterparty is an emerging subgenre of murder mystery whereby the investigation offers the characters a chance to renew themselves, find personal fulfilment and kinda live out of the ordinary. Critic Rutigliano simply puts it as “the millennial whodunnit.”

The first three episodes called “Aniq”, “Brett” and “Yasper” premiered on January 28 and thereafter an episode every week. Episode 4: “Chelsea” on February 4, Episode 5: “High School” on February 11, Episode 6: “Zoe” on February 18, Episode 7: “Danner” on February 25 and Episode 8: “Maggie” on March 4.

Reviews

For a show that’s still on a roll, The Afterparty seems to be performing quite well, with 89% Rotten Tomatoes and a 72% rating on IMDb. Critics consensus on the Rotten Tomatoes website reads, 'The Afterparty sometimes strains to keep the jamboree of yuks going, but its ambitious melding of genres and an extensive guest list of actors make for a worthwhile nightcap.'

Cast

Other main cast members joining Haddish and Franco include Sam Richardson as Aniq, the primary suspect, Zoë Chao as Zoë, Ike Barinholtz as Brett, Ben Schwartz as Yasper, Ilana Glazer as Chelsea and Jamie Demetrius as Walt.

The recurring cast consists of John Early as Detective Culp, Tiya Sircar as Jennifer #1, Ayden Mayari as Jennifer #2, Genevieve Angelson as Indigo and Kelvin Yu as Ned. Channing Tatum and Will Forte also make guest-starring appearances.
