While one became a symbol of drama and social realist cinema, the other brought laughter to millions with his comedy films. Although their paths never crossed in front of the camera, they forged a strong friendship behind the scenes that could be held up as an example.
The pair were not only colleagues, but also close friends who had limitless trust in each other. In the 1970s, Kadir Inanir and Kemal Sunal stood shoulder to shoulder in the struggle for the rights of cinema workers, maintaining their friendship out of the public eye but in a robust manner over the years.
Following Kemal Sunal's sudden death in 2000, Kadir Inanir did not leave this friendship solely in memories. He was always there for the Sunal family. During Ali Sunal's military service, he was one of the people who regularly checked in on him, saying, 'Let me know if you need anything'. As Gül Sunal revealed years later, Kadir Inanir was at the forefront of those who took care of the family after Kemal Sunal.
The paths of the duo intersected in an intriguing project as well. The film 'Komser Şekspir' by Sinan Çetin was initially envisioned for Kemal Sunal, but the project could not be realized due to Sunal's sudden death. Later, when the lead role was offered to Kadir Inanir, the veteran actor stepped in to fill his friend's shoes in the film.
Kadir Inanir, who had been undergoing treatment for advanced lung cancer for a long time, passed away at the age of 77 on June 26, 2026.

Ali Sunal bid farewell on his social media account by sharing a photo of Kadir İnanır, expressing his sentiments with the following words:
'Goodbye, handsome. My admiration for you will never cease. Could you give my father a hug for me?'
The post, which quickly garnered thousands of likes and comments, once again brought to light the longstanding friendship between the two great artists.
Following the sad news, Gül Sunal, who joined the live broadcast on CNN TURK, couldn't control her emotions as she spoke about Kadir İnanır. She emphasized that the veteran actor held a very special place not only in Kemal Sunal's life but in the entire family's. Gül Sunal expressed the following:
'He was a dear friend whom Kemal loved and trusted very much. He was also a friend we loved dearly. After Kemal's passing, he acted like a big brother to my children. When Ali was in the military, he would call to ask how he was doing, asking 'Do you need anything?' I can say that the only friend who did this was Kadir İnanır. He was a person whose actions matched his words, trustworthy, and very humble. I will remember him with gratitude all my life.'
