Golden Hearts: Tourist Praises Turkish People for Being Incredibly Helpful With Directions
Every country has its own unwritten rules and reflexes that reveal the character of its people. While in many tourist cities around the world, the local population is known for their distant attitude or weariness towards tourists, the situation in our geography operates with a completely opposite reflex. What seems to us as a simple act of kindness can transform into an unforgettable tale of surprise and admiration for an outsider's perspective.
A foreign content creator shared this societal reflex, which he personally experienced during his trip to Turkey, on his social media account. The traveler, emphasizing that getting lost in Turkey is not a situation to worry about, narrated the helpfulness of Turkish people when it comes to giving directions.
You can watch it from here;
As the tourist amusingly recounts in the video, it's rare in Turkey to encounter someone who merely points in the direction when you ask for an address.
The Turkish people, even if they struggle with language, will mobilize to help you, using hand gestures, maps on their phones, and even involving other people around. But they don't stop there. If your destination is nearby or if they are available, they will offer to leave their work and personally escort you to your destination. This behavior, which is completely contrary to the Western culture's boundaries of 'personal space' and 'time management,' is actually a reflection of our deep-rooted understanding of 'guests are a gift from God' in the modern world.
