Dramatic Collapse: Nepal Government Building Swept Away by Floods
The severe monsoon rains that have been wreaking havoc in Nepal for days continue to cause devastating floods and landslides across the country. As a result of the excessive rise in river levels, all structures near the riverbeds are under great threat. The latest images from the region once again starkly illustrate how powerless even massive man-made structures can be against the might of nature.
In the disaster, a public building was swept away by the water. The process, which started with the erosion of the soil on the riverbank, ended with the complete disappearance of a large structure within seconds. These moments were captured on camera in real time.

What's behind this flood disaster that occurred in Nepal?
Since August 2026, Nepal has been grappling with a severe monsoon season. A glacial lake outburst flood that occurred over the Bhotekoshi River on August 26th triggered a deluge that decimated numerous hydroelectric power plants and bridges, claiming the lives of over a thousand people according to official records. The onslaught of flooding and landslides continued into September, affecting various regions of the country. The collapse of a government building, as seen in shared footage, is part of this second wave.
With the water level in the river bed surpassing the critical threshold, the layer of soil on the riverbank could not withstand the intense flow and began to soften and slide at a rapid pace. A colossal government building constructed right on this boundary lost its balance entirely as the soil at its foundation gave way. While the building was evacuated during the incident, preventing potential loss of life, the moments of panic experienced by nearby residents and authorities were captured on record.
