Scott Adams suggests nine mental techniques to take control of your mind and reduce anxiety levels. Each of these methods can be easily implemented in everyday life:

1. Envision Yourself on Your Deathbed

When faced with a situation that is incredibly frustrating and gnawing at your mind, ask yourself this question: 'Will I genuinely care about this issue in the last moments of my life, when I am on my deathbed?' You don't even remember many of the problems that tormented you last year. This perspective allows you to grasp the true magnitude of events.

2. Don't Try to Eradicate Thoughts

The more you try to forcibly expel a negative thought that comes to your mind, the more your mind focuses on it, and the thought grows to a colossal size. Instead, engage your mind with other topics that excite you and pique your interest. After a while, you'll see that the disturbing thought has faded away on its own.

3. Don't Treat Social Media as a Hobby

Stop viewing social media as an innocent form of entertainment. Consider it a mechanism that drains all your energy, attention, and time, providing profit to others. When you adopt this perspective, your screen time will naturally decrease, and your mental burden will lighten.

4. Control What You Can as Much as Possible

Getting stuck on events that are out of reach and you cannot intervene in, puts you in an endless cycle of stress. You need to shift your focus entirely. Your sleep pattern, diet, activity level, and daily habits are directly in your hands. Focus on disciplining every area you can intervene in, apart from genetic factors.

5. This Isn't Stress, It's ENERGY

5. This Isn't Stress, It's ENERGY

When your heart starts to race and your body sends signals of anxiety, shift your mental label. Tell yourself, 'I'm not anxious, I just have a high amount of energy accumulated in my body.' Then, discharge this energy by converting it into a physical activity, a good workout, or sport.

6. Criticisms from Others Shouldn't Concern You

A negative thought someone has about you can't cause you physical or real harm. It's merely a small thought circulating in another person's mind. Don't allow a thought in someone else's mind to affect your mood and life.

7. Don't Fear Embarrassment, Learn to Love It

Don't shy away from stepping out of your comfort zone and encountering uncomfortable situations. The more often you put yourself in such situations, the quicker you'll realize that the disaster scenarios you've magnified in your mind don't actually come to pass. Nobody dies from embarrassment; on the contrary, it significantly boosts your self-confidence.

8. Always Try and Measure the Results (A/B Testing)

If the first few methods you tried didn't work, don't immediately give up and retreat. Gaining mental control isn't achieved in a single move, it's a lifelong process of trial and error. Apply a method, observe your feelings; if it doesn't work, try the next one. As long as you keep seeking, you will find the right formula for yourself.

9. Your Ego is Your Enemy, Silence It

Most of the time, what you label as shyness or timidity is actually your ego trying to protect you. It prevents you from speaking to the person you want to talk to, from applying for a new job, from taking steps. When you refuse to let your ego limit you and silence it, you remove the biggest obstacle in your path.
