The provinces in Turkey with the highest foreign currency reserves have been identified. The Anatolian city has surpassed Istanbul and Ankara, securing its place at the top. According to data from the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA), the total deposit size within the country reached the threshold of 30 trillion 100 billion TL during the period from January to June.

According to data from the BDDK, Aksaray leads the list of provinces that prefer to invest their savings in foreign currency, with a DTH rate of 57.31%. Aksaray is followed by Yozgat, Siirt, Karaman, and Gümüşhane, respectively.

Here are the cities with the highest foreign currency rates:

According to a report by Ömer Faruk Bingöl from the Türkiye newspaper, the cities with the least inclination towards foreign currency are at the other end of the list. The city with the lowest proportion of foreign currency within its total deposits is Ardahan, with a rate of 25.61%, followed by Şanlıurfa, Bitlis, and Edirne.

Detailed regional analyses by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA) have highlighted distinct preferences in deposit choices across Turkey. While economically powerful mega-cities command the lion's share of total foreign currency savings in terms of volume, certain provinces in Anatolia stand out with their high ratio of foreign currency within their total savings. A whopping 50.9% of Turkey's total foreign currency deposit of 11.41 trillion TL is concentrated in Istanbul and Ankara.

In terms of foreign currency savings amount, Istanbul (with a contribution of 4.54 trillion TL to GDP) and Ankara (1.27 trillion TL) are followed by Izmir, Antalya, and the industrial powerhouse Bursa. Kocaeli stands out with its industrial strength, while Adana and Mersin also make it into the top 10.
