This trend, which particularly gained momentum in Turkey in 2024 and 2025, has by 2026 established its own economy and legal system. While some opt for compact caravans that can be towed by a car, others settle into caravans that offer almost the comfort of a house.

So, is it sensible to convert a bus into a caravan?
Why Does It Make Sense?
Cost-Effectiveness: You can build your own caravan (motorhome) for much less than buying a ready-made one. Since you will be building it piece by piece, you have the opportunity to spread your budget over time.
Personalization: You can design everything from the placement of the bed inside to the material of the kitchen counter according to your own taste and needs.
Mobility: Compared to large bus caravans, minibuses (like Ducato, Master, Sprinter) are much more practical for entering cities, progressing on narrow roads, and parking.
Freedom of Insulation: In the caravan you build yourself, you can make the insulation (heat and sound) much higher quality than market-made caravans.
Why Is It Challenging?
Official Procedures (TSE and Inspection): You need to have a project drawn up, pass the TSE approval, and have an inspection to convert the minibus into an 'M1 Class Special Purpose Motorhome' license. This is both costly and requires patience.
B Capacity: If the vehicle you choose is too large or its weight exceeds a certain limit, your driving license class (B) may not suffice. Typically, panel van/minibus style vehicles can be driven with a B license, but it is essential to pay attention to the weight.
Time and Effort: If you are going to do it yourself, you should be prepared for craftsmanship that will take months. If you are going to have it done by masters, finding the right one can sometimes cost more than the caravan itself.
