Years later, Yaprak Dökümü is still sparking debate.
Yaprak Dökümü aired on Kanal D between 2006 and 2010 and remains one of Turkey's most talked-about family dramas. Ferhunde, played by Deniz Çakır, was the wife of Şevket, the eldest son of the Tekin family, and for many viewers she stayed in memory as the series' 'bad daughter-in-law'.
Hasan Küçükçetin now believes Ferhunde was not as bad as she seemed.
'I always thought Ferhunde cheated on Şevket. Apparently she didn't. The woman actually wasn't that bad,' Hasan Küçükçetin said on Kültürsüz.
According to the actor, the pressure of the Tekin household shaped her. He pointed in particular to Ali Rıza Bey, played by Halil Ergün: 'You get married and your father-in-law calls you 'Hanım'. He never once called her 'my child'.'
He sees her harsh side as a way of protecting herself.
Hasan Küçükçetin described Ferhunde's sharp behaviour as a defensive reflex rather than cruelty, and said that is exactly where viewers judged her unfairly: 'When she protects herself, people say 'Ferhunde is a bad person'. She wasn't.'
In the same interview, the actor also talked about the behind-the-scenes of Ali Rıza Bey's death scene. His take on Ferhunde has added a new angle to the long-running 'bad daughter-in-law' debate among the show's fans.
