Why Did Fi End So Early? Azra Kohen's Old Remark About Bilge Is Making the Rounds Again
Years after its finale, the Turkish series Fi, starring Serenay Sarıkaya, Ozan Güven and Büşra Develi, is still being talked about on social media. A video of Azra Kohen, the author of the novels it was based on, has been shared again, bringing back the question fans have asked for years: why did Fi end so early?
Fi became a phenomenon soon after its 2017 premiere.
Adapted from Akilah Azra Kohen's best-selling Fi, Çi, Pi trilogy and produced by Ay Yapım, Fi premiered on puhutv on 31 March 2017. Its ad-free episodes quickly made it one of the most talked-about online series in Turkey.
The cast
Ozan Güven played the famous psychiatrist Can Manay.
Serenay Sarıkaya played the dancer Duru.
Mehmet Günsur played the composer Deniz, and Berrak Tüzünataç played the journalist Özge.
Büşra Develi played Bilge Görgün, a student fighting to keep her scholarship in Can Manay's classes.
Planned for four seasons, the series lasted only two seasons and 22 episodes. The finale aired on 9 March 2018.
In the resurfaced video, Azra Kohen says Bilge was the real lead.
In the video, shared on the YouTube channel Magazin Noteri, Azra Kohen says: 'The main character was Bilge. We had chosen Büşra Develi as the lead. Bilge needed to be in the foreground.' She adds that she worked hard on this, but Bilge did not come across on screen as a lead character, and that this is why she had the series ended. The post does not say when the video was recorded.
Not the first time
Azra Kohen had already announced in December 2017, while the second season was still airing, that the series would end with that season, saying the story had drifted away from the books. In a 2019 interview with the newspaper Şalom, she said she had to stand up for the characters she created and that she had not even watched the final episodes.
