They Built a Massive 26-Story Building in Just 5 Days
A Chinese company, breaking all the norms in the construction industry, has set a world record by completing a colossal 26-story apartment building in just five days. The building, constructed with stainless steel modules stacked like LEGO blocks, is said to withstand for over a thousand years and can be dismantled and relocated if desired.
A groundbreaking advancement in construction technology has taken place in the Xiangyin region of Hunan province, China.
Challenging the world's high-rise building constructions that can last for months, even years, Broad Group Holon company delivered the 'Jingdu Holon Building', a 26-story structure with a usage area of 14,000 square meters, in just 5 days.
As part of a special talent introduction program, this extraordinary building will host professionals brought into the district. Moreover, the rightful owners will have the privilege of residing in this building for the first two years without paying any rent.
The secret behind this super-fast construction that leaves engineers astounded is the smart modular construction method developed by the company, which is known as "Holon".
The system completely eliminates traditional concrete pouring processes:
Before the apartments even arrive at the construction site, they are produced in the factory as stainless steel modular units, measuring 12 meters in length, 3 meters in height, and 2.4 meters in width.
During the production of these units in the factory, electrical installations, ventilation ducts, and basic equipment are meticulously mounted inside the rooms.
These massive steel blocks that come out of the factory are transported to the construction site by trucks. With the help of cranes, they are stacked on top of each other like toy blocks and quickly screwed together. The moment the assembly of the blocks is completed, the main structure of the building, the stairs, and the elevators are also finished. In the final step, only the main electrical and water lines are connected.
Li Shun, the General Manager of Broad Group's Holon division, emphasized that the building's stainless steel structure is significantly lighter and more flexible compared to traditional concrete. Consequently, it exhibits extraordinary resistance against earthquakes.
The company asserts that, thanks to stainless steel technology, the lifespan of the building will exceed 1000 years. One of the most astounding features of the building is its portability; if required, this 26-story giant structure can be completely dismantled and reassembled in another city.
The Jingdu Holon Building is not only fast-paced but also a true friend of the environment. Thanks to its advanced heat insulation design and the noise-absorbing properties of the exterior walls, air conditioning and heating costs in the apartments are reduced by up to 90%. The specially designed four-compartment windows used in the building operate to keep the scorching heat outside on sunny days.
Following the company's previous construction of an 11-story building in the provincial capital of Changsha in 28 hours and 45 minutes, modular building expert Tony Frost from New Zealand stayed there for a week to personally test the building.
