Euronews recently reported on a study conducted by experts at TUI Musement, a company offering tours and activities. The research aimed to uncover which European cities tourists most frequently search for day trips from, using Google search volumes as the primary data source.
The team scrutinized all cities across Europe with a population exceeding 150,000, analyzing how often the phrase 'day trips from [city]' was searched for on Google, both in the city's local name and its English translation. This comprehensive analysis revealed the European cities that are most frequently the subject of day trip searches.
Topping the list was London. With approximately 260,000 Google results for day trip searches, London firmly secured its place at the top. It was observed that tourists visiting London were most interested in exploring the ancient Stonehenge and the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bath.
So, which European cities are next on the list?
Paris serves as a hub for both day trips and for exploring other regions of France, making it one of the most frequented European cities for such excursions.
Next on the list is Barcelona, Spain. Among the favorites for tourists is the Montserrat mountain range, attracting visitors with its monastery and hiking trails.
Alongside London, Edinburgh from the United Kingdom also makes the list. In recent years, Edinburgh has gained popularity and is seen as an ideal spot for day trips.
In neighboring Greece, Athens stands as one of the day trip hotspots with its ancient ruins and city tours.
The country that made a significant mark on the list is Italy.
Following London and France, Rome in Italy claims the third spot. However, Rome isn't Italy's only option.
Rome, with its popular attractions such as the Colosseum and the Vatican, coupled with its appealing location, garners significant attention. Those wishing to explore Tuscany, on the other hand, set their sights on Florence. Lakes, mountains, rivers... For those longing to discover natural beauty, Milan is added to their itinerary.
