Rıza Kayaalp Becomes European Champion for the 13th Time, Breaking World Record
Rıza Kayaalp stepped onto the mat for a record-breaking attempt at the 2026 European Wrestling Championship held in Albania. The national wrestler squared off against his Hungarian opponent, Attila Vitek, in the Greco-Roman style 130-kilogram final for the gold medal. Triumphing over his world runner-up adversary, the record-holding athlete made history by securing his 13th European championship title.

Kayaalp has made history as the first wrestler to clinch 13 gold medals in European championships, securing his legendary status among living wrestlers. He has set a formidable record, surpassing the 12 championships of Russian Aleksandr Karelin.
Alongside his 13 European titles, the seasoned wrestler has also savored the joy of world championship victories five times, namely in 2011 (Istanbul), 2015 (Las Vegas), 2017 (Paris), 2019 (Astana), and 2022 (Belgrade).
