Multiplayer Board Game Catan - Console Edition in the Works
If you’re a fan of multiplayer board games and are itching to play one in the comfort of your bed, then the upcoming console edition of the award-winning board game, Catan, could just be the right one for you. The game, which was formerly known as Die Siedler von Catan (The Settlers of Catan), will be having an unexpected port to consoles, providing wider audience reach and better accessibility to its current fans.
According to its official website, the famous strategy board game will “come to life” on the PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S this year, 2023, without any signs of slowing down. The renowned digital version of the classic tabletop promises to deliver “the original, authentic Catan experience and lets you play with up to 4 friends,” according to the game’s official website. The Catan - Console Edition retains the same core gameplay of its physical board game origin, which involves acquiring resources, building settlements, and even trading with other players—and this is in line with the game’s “Trade, Build, Settle” tagline on its official website.
The digital tabletop version of Catan includes three main game modes: single-player, multiplayer, and couch co-op. Single-player mode will pit you against AIs with dynamic strategies to provide you with adequate difficulty and create unique experiences for every game. Multiplayer mode allows up to four players to play against each other either from pre-made groups of friends or via matchmaking to include players around the world. Lastly, the couch co-op mode simply allows players to play with each other locally.
The tabletop strategy game will also let players create their own board setups, which guarantees that each game will be a different experience from another. There will also be an option for quick play, which will automatically create a board with pre-set settlements if you’re just looking for that rapid gameplay without having to think about how to set up your board.
Aside from the various game modes and gameplay features that Catan - Console Edition has to offer, the game will also feature beautiful, high-quality graphics. You can play the game at 60 fps in 4k graphics on the PlayStation and Xbox Series, with the PS5 incorporating haptic feedback as well. The release date of the strategy board game’s console edition is not yet specified, but fans of the franchise (or just general tabletop players and fans) should expect the game to drop within this year.
