Hidden Treasure Uncovered: Construction Workers Strike Gold in Sewer Line Excavation
Workers conducting sewerage and infrastructure work in the Belagavi region of the state of Karnataka, India, made a historic discovery during their excavation. Four workers conducting CPT (Animal Proof Trench) work in the village of Inchal in the Saundatti district found 14 ancient gold coins buried in the ground. The historical coins, with a total weight of 54.88 grams, were handed over to the authorities.
During the incident that took place on August 29, four workers noticed the coins while excavating near the BCM Dormitory.
Uncertain about whom to hand over the money to, the workers approached Project Director Ravi Bangarappanavar on September 4th. Subsequently, regional authorities and the village council were informed, thus initiating the official process.
During the inspection conducted in the presence of district authorities and local jewelers, it was confirmed that the coins were indeed real gold.
It has been determined that each of the standard-sized coins weighs approximately 3.91 grams. Following the preparation of the official inventory report, the gold was transferred to the state treasury.
Basavaraj Ayyanagoudra, the Chairman of the Saundatti Tauk Panchayat Executive Board, confirmed the receipt of the coins. He announced that a detailed examination will be initiated by archaeologists and experts to determine the period and kingdom to which these historical artifacts belong.
